What is aHUS and why the University of Iowa
& Nationwide Children’s
Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, chronic disease that occurs in about 2 per every 1 million people. aHUS causes tiny blood clots to form in your blood vessels, blocking blood flow to important organs leading to progressive organ damage. The Molecular Otolaryngology & Renal Research Laboratory (MORL) at the University of Iowa is leading research to increase the knowledge base of complement-mediated renal diseases. We also know what it’s like to wonder how life goes on after this diagnosis and we do not want that to be a worry for others which is why donating to aHUS patient care Nationwide Children’s Hospital has become a priority.
