Our mission

What is aHUS and why the University of Iowa
& Nationwide Children’s

Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, chronic disease that occurs in about 2 per every 1 million people. aHUS causes tiny blood clots to form in your blood vessels, blocking blood flow to important organs leading to progressive organ damage. The Molecular Otolaryngology & Renal Research Laboratory (MORL) at the University of Iowa is leading research to increase the knowledge base of complement-mediated renal diseases. NEW this year we will also be donating to aHUS patient care Nationwide Children’s Hospital. We know what it’s like to wonder how life goes on after this diagnosis and we do not want that to be a worry for others.
